Understanding spasticity and its triggers

What is spasticity?

Spasticity involves altered movement control, increased muscle tension, spasms, and overactive reflexes. It is particularly common with cervical and incomplete injuries.

What does spasticity feel or look like?

Symptoms vary and can include stiffness, jerking, discomfort, and changes in posture.

Why does spasticity happen?

Reduced brain control of spinal reflexes and changes in muscles contribute. The stretch reflex can become more excitable when descending control is disrupted.
